The Very Rev. Dr. Joy Rogers is Dean of Saint James Cathedral, the Bishop’s Church of the Diocese of Chicago.  She is an accomplished preacher and will join us in worship to preach the Gospel.

Dr. Murray Flagg is an Atlanta pastor and preacher who has exercised his ministry in the Salvation Army and the Free Methodist Church – USA.  He will be with us to preach the Gospel.

We share the Feast of Saint Peter and Saint Paul, Apostles, with our neighbors at Saint Paul’s Episcopal Church in DeKalb.  They will join together with us for a mutual celebration of the patron saints we share and commemorate together.

The Right Rev. Jeffrey Lee, Bishop of Chicago, will join us to preach the Gospel, administer the Sacramental Rite of Confirmation, and to celebrate the Holy Eucharist.  A festive reception will follow the service.

Trinity Sunday is an annual feast acknowledging the glory of God who is three Persons and one Being: the Creating Father, the Redeeming Son, and the Sustaining Holy Spirit.

Our guest preacher for today’s service is the Rev. Jennifer Baskerville-Burrows, Director of Networking for the Diocese of Chicago.  Please join us to hear her preach the Gospel.

During June, we will worship according to Rite One.

During July, we will worship according to Enriching Our Worship 1.

During August, we will worship according to Rite Two.

Forty days after his Resurrection, Jesus left this world to take his seat at the right hand of God.  We remember this event annually on Ascension Day, the Thursday forty days after Easter Day.

Join us at 6:00 for the Eucharist, with a festive potluck supper following in Waterman Hall.

This is the last of the Great Fifty Days of Easter.  The Day of Pentecost is the Church’s remembrance of the descent of the Holy Spirit on the Disciples, when they became empowered to communicate the Good News to everyone of every language and nation.

Our 10:00 service will be particularly exuberant, with the proclamation of Scripture in many languages.  Come and celebrate!

The children and youth of Saint Peter’s will take leadership roles in the 10:00 service this morning.  We will also recognize the close of the Sunday School year and honor those among us who are graduating from elementary, middle, and high school as well as college and graduate school.

The gentle, intimate joy of a supper similar to Jesus’ own Last Supper begins the evening.  At the liturgy after supper we will have the opportunity to wash each other’s feet in humble service, and the altar will be stripped and laid bare, symbolizing our Lord’s vulnerability and desolation as he prepares himself for the next day.  The side chapel will become our own Garden of Gethsemane- join in prayer and meditation with the Sacrament.

Come stand at the foot of the Cross, as Jesus suffers and dies, bearing the sins and sorrows of a broken world.  We will pray for the suffering people of the world, contemplate the Cross which is the paradoxical instrument of our salvation, and receive the sacrament which commemorates and makes present Christ’s sacrifice on the Cross.

Saturday, April 7           Easter Eve

This is the night!  The Church’s most ancient observance of Easter, this dramatic service unfolds the entire history of God’s promises of salvation from Creation to our own day.  Fire, water, stories, and sacraments combine in mystical concert to celebrate the Paschal Mystery- the life that destroys death.  If you have never been to the Vigil, make this the year- it is a liturgy like no other, and the culmination of the whole church year.  Let the feasting begin!
